B&B Near Hawkhurst, Cranbrook, Ticehurst & Tunbridge Wells
Located down a quiet lane off the A268 Flimwell - Hawkhurst road and approximately a mile from the village of Hawkhurst, secluded Well Cottage has lovely uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside.
About five miles south of Cranbrook, this bed and breakfast accommodation is the ideal base in which to relax and unwind. From here it is easy to explore the many attractions of Kent and East Sussex.
The coast of south east England at Rye and Hastings is only a short drive away, as is Royal Tunbridge Wells, Sissinghurst Gardens, Bedgebury and Bewl Water (home of the Lapland UK family attraction popular in winter).
Accommodation at Well Cottage
We offer a choice of the popular garden pavilion which is totally private and self contained with its kingsize double or twin beds option with ensuite shower, toilet and washbasin.
Two further bedrooms are available in the main house - a double with en-suite facilities (shower, toilet and wash basin) and a double with a private bathroom (bath, shower, toilet and wash basin).
All of the rooms include a comfortable seating area with television and facilities for making hot drinks. In the garden there is a heated swimming pool - guests can enjoy a swim during the summer months.
A 'Kentish' Breakfast
Each morning, a Full English Breakfast is served in the dining room of the main house, including locally produced sausages, bacon and free range eggs.
Vegetarian and Continental style breakfast options are available on request. There is always fresh fruit, fruit juices, cereals, yoghurt and plenty of freshly brewed coffee or tea. Kent honey makes the perfect accompaniment for hot toast or a slice of bread from the local bakery.
Facilities and amenities in Hawkhurst include a wide range of pubs and restaurants within easy reach, shops, banks, farm shops and the nearby Wealden Smokery.
Location / Directions
Well Cottage is located in Delmonden Lane, 250 metres south of the A268 road between Hawkhurst and Flimwell / Ticehurst.
The accommodation is approximately 1½ miles from Hawkhurst and the same distance from the traffic lights at Flimwell, where the A21 and A268 roads meet.
Activities, Sports and Other Places of Interest
At Bewl Water there are facilities for visitors to go sailing, walking or fishing. Cycling is popular in this part of Kent and bike hire is available at Bewl Water and Bedgebury Forest, home of 'Go Ape' adventure centre. Some recent guests commented upon the wealth of cycle routes and trails they found to be available here.
Kite surfing is available on one of the spectacular beaches at Camber Sands, curling is another unusual activity at Fentons Curling Rink, whilst children will love the steam trains on the railway at Tenterden.
Places of interest include Scotney Castle, the nearby ruins of Bayham Abbey, Bodiam Castle (stunning setting), Battle Abbey (historic stories from 1066), Batemans - the birthplace of Rudyard Kipling, and of course Royal Tunbridge Wells - famous landmarks such as The Pantiles.
You can visit the museum of musical instruments at Finchcocks, or Hastings - with its arty and attractive old town, fishing boats on the beach and wonderful cliff top walks. Another great place for walks is The Weald, where the well-marked footpaths include some that lead directly from Well Cottage Bed and Breakfast.
Rye, an historic 'Cinque Port', Winchelsea or Romney Marsh are popular places to go, Romney being home to a wide range of birdlife, a collection of unique churches, a miniature railway, and a Military Canal. Tenterden is a lovely town with Georgian Buildings, the Kent and East Sussex Railway and the nearby Chapel Down vineyard (steam trains to Bodiam also depart from Tenterden).
